Advance Planning In The Era Of Uncertainty For African American Business Due To Crisis – Black Wall Street Revisited

African Americans must begin to plan and innovate now in the era of uncertainty for African American businesses due to the current crisis we are facing in this nation.  If ever there was a time that we should pool our dollars and circulate them in our business network, now is the time.  We should continue to innovate in the area of digital spaces, but also recommit our economic spending power to the brick and mortar businesses in our community.

We often speak of the wonders on Black Wall Street, but we must not only speak of the concept but develop sound plans, community cohesion, word of mouth business acquisition strategies, and renewed commitment to reignite Black Wall Street in a modern way in a modern era.  In our Space, In our Time, We Can and Must Make a Difference!

There is no doubt that we will lose a substantial number of businesses due to the current crisis, but hope, inspiration, planning, hard work and good old fashioned ingenuity offers more than a glimmer of hope.  Some months ago I wrote an article about   African American Chamber of Commerce LIAACC launching a campaign to Retool, Refocus, and Rebuild Black Business in New York State.

As New York State’s largest African American Chamber of Commerce the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. (LIAACC) has raised the bar for what it means to be a black chamber in New York State.

In the age social media and technological advancement being an active member of a chamber of Commerce in your local or regional trade zone can have a tremendous impact on your business’s growth outlook and potential.

Being in the know in business circles can create an atmosphere suitable to business opportunities.

Staying well connected in the community enhances the chances of business colleagues in the chamber passing quality referrals to your business on a regular basis throughout the year.

Most chambers develop some sort of directory listing, and members of the community have a high level of trust for chambers that operate in an excellent manner consistently and provide high levels of service.

Chamber membership gives business owners a big bang for their buck, and can serve as a marketing tool for small business owners and professional service providers.

A business’s reputation can be enhanced by being a reputable business and member of the chamber, but they must also be mindful of continuing to provide quality customer service at all times.

The Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. serves the counties of Kings, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk.

As the New York District Office of the United States Small Business Administration 2019 Small Business Champion for 14 counties in Downstate, New York we will be engaging in significant outreach to small business owners to join our chamber efforts to rebuild black businesses in New York. Since its inception our chamber has actively provided a wide variety of programs and activities geared towards increasing our member’s capacity to grow their respective business enterprises to the next level.

We must take this time to ponder on how we can improve our spending habits, increase financial literacy, activate long term planning, and use the dollar in a way that it empowers us, and Retool, Refocus, and Rebuild Black Business in New York State.
