New York, York – New York’s Largest African American Chamber LIAACC pauses to honor National Black Business Month. August is National Black Business Month in America; a time when individuals and businesses recognize Black-owned businesses across the country. This month traces its history back to 2004 when Frederick E. Jordan, an engineering entrepreneur, teamed up with John William Templeton, president and executive editor of scholarly publishing company eAccess Corp to start the yearly event. We honor and salute all businesses owned by blacks across America; our entire membership and membership network throughout the region and United States. We also are pausing to recognize the work that our national affiliate the US Black Chambers, Inc. https://usblackchambers.org is doing to support Black Businesses throughout America.
During the last two years the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. (LIAACC) has launched various campaigns such as the Retool, Rebuild and Refocus Black Business Campaign and more recently launched a campaign to encourage corporations throughout American to support ongoing diversity initiatives to create more equity for Black Business Owners.
Although the Long African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. has received prestigious awards such as the New York District Office of the United States Small Business Administration 2019 Small Business Champion and most recently was awarded an Advocacy Award from the National Coalition of 100 Black Women of Long Island Chapter, Inc. we believe more can be done.
Our chamber is making an appeal to corporations to increase its commitment to doing their part to level the playing for Black America. During the pandemic our chamber was able to form a partnership with one of the top 5 PPP lenders to minority owned businesses and increase the success ratio of closed PPP Loans to disadvantaged businesses.
Listed below are reasons our chamber was named champion and some of the highlights of the work we are doing at the chamber!

Selection Criteria for champion:
1) Demonstrated efforts to improve conditions in the small business community as a whole, not solely for individual personal advancement;
2) Demonstrated accomplishments in advising small business groups of opportunities within the overall business community;
3) Volunteer efforts beyond business/professional responsibilities to advance small business interests within the community, state and/or nation;
4) Volunteer efforts to provide professional services to the small business community in a legal, legislative, managerial or financial capacity;
5) Other accomplishments/recognition demonstrating the nominee’s merit as an effective advocate for small business interests “This is a significant milestone for the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc.
