Garden City, New York – On February 9, 2018 the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce hosted its 4th Annual Black History Month Art Exhibition at Bloomingdale’s Furniture Gallery in Roosevelt Field Mall. Twelve artists from the Long Island Black Artist Association participated in this year’s Black History Month Art Exhibition. The artists included Aaron Scott, David Wilson, Deborah Corbin, Galvin Bisserup, Gina Samson, James Whitten, Jenifer Ivey, Kenneth Bradford, Lauren Sloan, Maxine Townsend-Broderick, Dr. Nichelle Rivers, and Rod Ivey.

“Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Long Island Black Artist Association is a significant milestone for the Long Island region, as this year’s collaboration brought together four organizations which included Bloomingdale’s, Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc., National Coalition of 100 Black Women Long Island Chapter, and LI Links, Inc. As we celebrated National Black History Month at the opening reception this art exhibition added another thread to the fabric of our history as African Americans on Long Island,” says Phil Andrews, President, Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce.
Legislator Siela A. Bynoe provided a special citation to the Long Island Black Artist Association commemorating their 50th Anniversary. Nassau County Executive Laura Curran presented each of the participating artist citations acknowledging their unique contribution to the exhibit’s success. Nassau County Comptroller Jack Schnirman bestowed citation upon Bloomingdales, Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, National Coalition of 100 Black Women Long Island Chapter, and LI Links, Inc. for their participation as event partners at this year’s event celebration.
Entertainment was provided by Sounds of Praise Band (“ISOP”) and, and caterer for the evening was Quilla’s Catering, Inc. Charmise Woodside-Desire’ served as guest vocalist with the Sounds of Praise Band (“ISOP”)
